Caduceus Healthcare is currently seeking an Orthopedic Surgeon for Munson Army Health Center, Leavenworth, KS. This is a one year contract. Start date for this position is upon completion of credentialing.


SPECIFIC TASKS

The HCP’s duties shall include, but are not limited to the following:

• Be able to diagnose, treat orthopedic diseases and injuries, and perform the full scope of general orthopedic surgeries.

• Complete each outpatient encounter appropriately closing the record. The HCP shall be responsible for completing each inpatient encounter in the inpatient records in accordance with Army regulations.

• Perform essentially the same duties as those required of any military orthopedic surgeon of similar experience and in similar duty assignments. The Orthopedic Surgeon will be required to perform procedures within the clinic environment and the inpatient setting to include surgery.

• Provide evaluation and management of urgent or emergent problems as such patients present for care.

• Be responsible for the medical management of his/her and those of other Orthopedic Staff patients when in clinic.

• Examine patients to determine extent of complaint and provide outpatient services as required. Counsel the patient with reference to the options that are available including no treatment. Carefully outline the procedure planned, the expected result and the possible complications.

• Reviews reports of patient’s general physical condition, reactions to medications, and medical history.

• Examine instruments, equipment and surgical setup to ensure that antiseptic and aseptic methods have been followed.

• Consult with other physicians and surgeons to determine the necessity for surgery.

• Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

• Teach other medical staff. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.

• Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education and counseling.

• Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others’ rights, as identified within the institution.

• Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.

• Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.

• Demonstrate appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.

• Complete continuing education to meet own professional growth and specialty standards.

• Prepare all records and reports as required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF standard operating procedures, federal law or Army regulation.

• Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is related to his/her assigned cases and/or performance of contract services as determined by the supervisor.

• Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with policies and regulations of the MTF.

• Use the various clinical automation systems as required, such as, but not limited to CHCS, AHLTA for outpatient records, Essentris for inpatient records, and DMHRSi.

• Support the MTF's Commanders' Productivity Plan and policies as they pertain to the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS.


• Be a graduate of a medical school approved by the Council of Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Hospital Association, or possess permanent certification by the Education Council for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

• Be a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy who has successfully completed an approved residency-training program in Orthopedic Surgery.

• The Orthopedic Surgeon is required to hold a current valid license to legally practice as an Orthopedic Surgeon in one of the 50 states in the United States, or the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. Territory.

• Have been continuously employed in the practice of orthopedics or in training for a minimum of three years prior to start of contract.

• Be Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery.

• Have knowledge of operating room methods, procedures, and equipment.

• Have a current DEA certification.

• Have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted.
