The Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders Department of the VA New Jersey Health Care System is recruiting providers to do per diem inpatient coverage on the weekends and holidays at the East OrangeCampus. Eligible candidates are those trained in Spinal Cord Medicine or who have experience with caring for patients with spinal cord injury or disorders or who have experience with working in acute or sub-acute rehabilitation settings. The inpatient SCI/D unit only has 14 beds and the attending physician is expected to come in to do rounds with the on call PM&RS resident which usually takes no more than 2-3 hours in the facility (rounds, care discussions, resident supervision and documentation of notes). The attending physician is also expected to be available by phone to take calls and give direction as indicated. This is usually at a minimum especially if all issues are addressed while on rounds. Emergencies and urgent change in patients' conditions are appropriately addressed via the Rapid Response System the facility has in place. We will provide the covering attendings with access from home to the VA's electronic medical record system for easy access to perform chart review, etc as the patient care dictates.
