The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) is seeking a physician to practice as an Oncologist in the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) in Pensacola, Florida. The incumbent should be Board Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine with Subspecialty Board Certification/Eligibility in Medical Oncology. The Oncologist will provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the outpatient Oncology Clinic as well as provide feedback and consultation to the Oncology Nurse Practitioners. In this role, the incumbent will also provide feedback and patient education to the patients and their families and will demonstrate excellence in all facets of patient care and meets or exceeds compliance standards. He or she will perform the following functions: Evaluate, diagnose, consult, and order appropriate diagnostic studies and treatments for Oncology patients. The incumbent will provide consultative evaluations and treatments to patients referred from other sections of the hospital and/or affiliated VA outpatient clinics, and perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of the Medicine Service. The incumbent will participate in any indicated clinical research trials in Hematology and Oncology, and become an active member of all cancer related committees and tumor board conferences. Moreover the incumbent will provide comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Hematology and Oncology. The incumbent is expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. The incumbent is expected to adhere to stated policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes (e.g. H&P, consult review, discharge summaries, medication reconciliation, etc). In addition, the incumbent is expected to coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with hospitalists, primary care providers, nursing, social workers, clerical staff, pharmacy and other subspecialists and ancillary staff. The ideal candidate will help to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered in a resourceful and efficient manner.
