The Atlanta VA Medical Center is recruiting a full time Hematology/Oncology Physician for Medical Specialty Care Service Line. The incumbent will report to the Chief of the Section of Hematology/Oncology for all clinical, administrative, and quality performance matters. Diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with hematology and oncology diseases according to standard, usual and acceptable or customary methods and techniques in the outpatient and inpatient settings. The incumbent shall be expected cooperate with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care and peer review and improvement and with other performance improvement activities at the direction of the Chief of Medicine. The physician will be required to take all the certifications for being a principal investigator in clinical trials and enroll eligible candidates in clinical trials. The physician will lead the lung cancer coordination program and the head and neck multidisciplinary program to include disease specific tumor board and will have primary clinics to see those patients. Due to large number of hematology/oncology consults all clinicians are expected to have clinics where they primarily see those consults independently of teaching. The physician will cover Hematology and Oncology clinics, Inpatient consults and Medicine Inpatient attending physician months. Attending on Saturday clinic on rotational basis. Attending physician is expected to be present in the hospital on rounds on weekends during weekend rotation of Inpatient service supervision and teaching. Participation on hospital committees, peer review or focus professional evaluations. Maintains a clinical caseload including individual and/or group treatment at the Atlanta VAMC. Exact nature of clinical responsibilities may vary depending on incumbent's areas of expertise and service line needs with additional focus in leukemia and other hematologic malignancies. Provides clinical consultation to Atlanta VAMC clinic and inpatient service. On-call responsibilities will be shared with the other Hematologist(s) - Oncologist(s) on staff. Specific services including, but are not limited to, bone marrow biopsy and aspiration and providing medical oversight for the Chemotherapy Infusion Center. The incumbent shall be expected to cooperate with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care and peer review and improvement and with other performance improvement activities at the direction of the Chief of Medicine. Provides leadership, guidance, teaching and consultation on staff education and development to Atlanta VAMC internal medicine, hematology/oncology and other residents and fellows as well as other clinical trainees and clinical staff. Other duties as assigned Tour of Duty : Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, may be required to work unscheduled hours in case of an emergency.
