Specializing in the care of newborn infants, a neonatologist(locum tenens) is often tasked with providing diagnoses and treatments to infants with birth defects and life-threatening illnesses. In order to become licensed as a neonatologist, a physician must first complete a residency in general pediatrics, followed by a fellowship in neonatology.
