About the Facility: The Department of Veterans Affairs recognized the need for an expansion of Veterans' health care services in Deep South Texas and approved the formation of a new health care system encompassing twenty counties comprised of the Laredo, McAllen, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi service areas. The name of this new health care system is the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) and this new system officially activated on October 1, 2010. The VATVCBHCS leadership team now manages its budget independently from the VA in San Antonio. Decisions on the expansion of programs, hiring of staff, and other key issues are now made locally. Loyalty is thoroughgoing in that it is not merely a casual interest but a wholehearted commitment to a cause." –Royce JOB REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Qualifications: • Must have at least 1 year of experience. • Must be Board Certified or Eligible in Family Practice or Internal Medicine (BC is preferred). • Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy Medicine who has successfully completed an approved residency training program in Family Practice or Internal Medicine. • Must have and maintain at least 1 full, active, current and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. jurisdiction. • Must have and maintain a current DEA registration. • Must have and maintain current BLS Certification. • Must be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and medical staff. • Must be proficient in the use of computers. • Must be a U.S. Citizen, or eligible to work in the United States. • Must be mentally and physically able to fulfill responsibilities of the work to be performed. • Must not have a record of disciplinary action that would currently exclude suspend, or terminate them as an authorized Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Provider. • Must have the experience and skills necessary to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries to include (but not limited to) the following: o Skin o Head o Eyes o Ears o Nose o Neck o Throat/Mouth o Gastrointestinal System o Cardiovascular System o Pulmonary System o Genitourinary System o Lymphatic System o Muscular Skeletal System o Central Nervous System o Reproductive System o Psychiatric Disease o Endocrine System o Peripheral Nervous System • Must be able to demonstrate sufficient experience and ability to perform medical procedures to include (but not limited to) the following: o Removal of foreign bodies as appropriate o Suture simple lacerations/remove sutures o Splint and stabilized traumatic injuries to extremities o Administer intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous medications as appropriate o Bladder catheterization o Local anesthesia o Electrocardiogram interpretation o Pulmonary Function Test Interpretation o Use of local/Topical Anesthesia o Repair of Lacerations of Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue o Arthrocentesis o Injections of Joints, Bursas or Cysts o Aspiration of Cysts o Excision of Skin or Subcutaneous Tissue o Incision and Drainage of Soft Tissue o Incision and Drainage of Abscess o Management of simple non-compound uncomplicated fracture o Application of splints o Nasal packing for epistaxis o Repair of skin lacerations (not full thickness) o Skin Biopsy o Skin Tag Removal o Pelvic exam and Pap Smears o Removal of IUD o Peripheral Nerve Blocks o Removal of non-penetrating corneal foreign body, nasal foreign body o Placement of anterior nasal hemostatic packing o Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen • Must be able to complete the following tasks effectively: o Consult with consultant appropriately o Provide medical advice over the telephone o Complete all required paperwork/computerized documentation o Perform physical examinations o Obtain an adequate history, physical, assessment, and plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develop treatment plan o Utilize paraprofessional staff as appropriate o Respond to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate and arrange appropriate backup from VATVCBHCS staff o Interpret electrocardiograms
