The Hospital
Western Plains Medical Complex (WPMC) is a 99-bed acute care facility that serves as a regional referral center for southwest Kansas. Fully accredited by The Joint Commission, WPMC has a comprehensive range of state-of the-art medical equipment, including a 64 Slice CT, MRI, Dual Head Nuclear Medicine Camera, Digital Mammography with Stereotactic, and a hospital-based helicopter. The facility boasts a 24-hour physician staffed Emergency Department, Inpatient Rehabilitation, and Skilled Nursing Unit, an Intensive Care Unit, a busy Neurodiagnostics & Sleep Disorders Center, and an inviting, warm and comfortable Women's Center featuring a Level II Nursery and full Obstetrical Services. In addition to the hospital's main campus facility that houses the Inpatient Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Unit, there is the Women's Center, Western Plains Occupational Medicine Clinic, and Western Plains Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic located in the Village Square Mall.

The Community
The colorful history of Dodge City began with the opening of the Santa Fe Trail in 1821. Today, Dodge City celebrates its western heritage every year during Dodge City Days, a two week extravaganza that features one of the largest rodeos in the nation, arts and crafts, fairs, parades, street dances, BBQ contests and much more. The city also features a repertory company, dinner theater, arts center, several museums and a full season of symphonies and concerts. Dodge City is proud to have one of the finest public school systems in Kansas. Dodge City Community College prepares over 2,400 students in a wide range of academic fields, ranging from accounting to pre-veterinary medicine. Ft. Hays State University and Kansas State University offer bachelors degree completion programs through the EduKan Distance learning program. Masters degree completion and adult continuing-education programs are also available. Newman University based in Wichita, offers bachelors degree completion programs in education, business and other specialties. Dodge City is served by a regional airport with daily flights to Denver.

Recreation
Whether you enjoy golf, tennis, hunting, fishing, bowling, camping, dancing or auto racing, the recreational opportunities in and around Dodge City are virtually unlimited. Dodge City Raceway Park, a 3/8-mile dirt track with a 1/6-mile asphalt track, features a full calendar of auto racing as well as a 3,500 seat main grandstand. Completed in the summer of 2000 at a cost of $3.2 million, Legends Park is a state-of-the-art baseball facility, one of Kansas' premier four-field multi-use complexes. The city also boasts a first-class soccer complex. Dodge City also has a challenging 18 hole private golf course and Country Club, and an 18 hole municipal course and driving range. The Boot Hill Casino and Resort opened in 2009. Also, in keeping with its western roots, Dodge City hosts a PRCA sanctioned rodeo which is nationally ranked. The famous ski resorts of Colorado are within easy driving distance, and hunters from around the country journey to southwest Kansas to enjoy excellent upland game bird and deer hunting. The nearby Horse Thief Reservoir offers boating, skiing, and fishing.
