This is a unique part-time (10 hours per week) opportunity for a Primary Care Doctor to provide general medical care as well as provide alternative and nonpharacological pain management solutions to the inmate population at various New Hampshire Department of Corrections locations. The primary location for services will be at the North State Correctional Facility in Berlin.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Investigates and provides alternative nonpharmacological pain management solutions in compliance with departmental pain management guidelines prior to recommending and prescribing pharmacological pain treatments according to pain clinic guidelines and criteria. Maintains a caseload of pain management clients.
.• Provides direct patient care by daily Sick Call, by referral, and by routine appointments for patients/inmates.
• Completes admission History and Physical exams and orders and read Labs, EKG’s and X-rays, as indicated.
• Completes scheduled Annual History and Physical exams, for Inmates/Patients.
• Adheres to approved DOC formulary. If Non formulary medication is required, then utilizes the approved Non-formulary process.
• Responds to all medical emergencies.
• Provides emergency treatment on-site and initiates and co-ordinates off-site transfer to ER’s and outside Hospitals.
• Evaluates patients/inmates after upon return from ER/Outside Hospitals, and follows recommendations on treatment, (or disagreement with an alternative plan), and documents same in medical record.
• Rewrites MD orders for all returning patients who have been away from site for more than 24 Hours.
• Assesses and triages psychiatric patients when no Psychologist and/or Psychiatrist are available on site.
• The Medical Doctor provides on call coverage services on a rotating basis through pager and phone to all facilities and sites with availability to come in to facility if indicated.
Job Requirements
Candidates must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Practice or Internal Medicine with active unrestricted New Hampshire medical license and Federal DEA. Prior experience providing services within a correctional medical environment, familiarity with NCCHC or ACA correctional medicine guidelines, and/or pain management practice experience preferred.

Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States without restriction and be willing and able to pass an extensive background screening.
