Review surveillance of microbiology data including but not limited to analysis of blood stream infections, surgical site infections, ventilator-associated pneumonias and multi-drug resistant organisms.

Act as Chair of the Infection Control Committee.

Participate in rounding of units/departments and in outpatient clinics regularly to insure compliance with infection control practices; participate on hospital wide and medical staff QI committees.

Direct and monitor Joint Commission survey preparation related to Infection Control.

Provide leadership and clinical expertise in assisting the hospital to achieve its patient safety goals and initiatives related to infection control; and other regulatory entities.

Provide support in the reporting of data to public health departments or other regulatory agencies.

Assist in the development of the infection control programs including hygiene, isolation precautions, cleaning equipment utilizing proper cleaning agents, etc. as well as assist in the planning to implementation of these programs throughout the hospital.

Participate in the education of Medical Staff, Clinical Staff and non-clinical staff regarding infection control practices.

Assist in the development and approval of infection control policies and procedures; Review and provide direction in the revisions of the infection control policies at least every three years or when new regulatory requirements change.

Develop infection control and performance improvement policies related to Emergency Management and participate in mandatory exercises.

Work directly with Employee Health Service and Infection Control RN, as well as other hospital administrators in conducting and/or coordinating follow up of exposures to patients, families, and physicians.

Partner with Occupational Health on infection control concerns.

Consult with all departments and programs on issues and concerns related to infection control and prevention.

The physician hired for this position will be an employee of the hospital.
