• All Requested Documents are due no later than 10/24/12 at NOON.




1. POSITION AVAILABE: Provision of hospitalist services for evenings, overnight, weekend and holiday shifts

2. ESTIMATED HOURS:

• Approximately 24 and 108 hours per week plus holiday day coverage
• Shifts will be 12 hours in duration
1. 6PM – 6AM all week
2. 6AM – 6PM Saturday & Sunday
• Shifts will be expected to be divided up among hospitalists.

3. DUTIES:

• Manage medical aspects of surgical care and routine post-operative care of surgical inpatients
• Direct patient care to surgical inpatients
• Work rotating shifts including evenings, overnight and weekend shifts.
• Participate in quality management and other activities as directed.
• Evaluation & management of clinical issues and changes arising during the coverage period.
• Telephone consultation directly with the Attending General, Thoracic, or Vascular Surgeon on call for concerns about which the Hospitalist feels more direct surgical evaluation or intervention may be required. Attending surgeon is responsible for decisions regarding need for and timing of surgical intervention.
• General and Thoracic Attending Surgeons on call will round on both days of the weekend, as well as their routine rounds during the week.
• ED or floor consultations to General or Thoracic Surgery would be handled as follows:
o During times when the Surgical Service Hospitalist is on duty, the initial contact by the ED or floor physician will be with the Surgical Service Hospitalist. The Surgical Service Hospitalist will discuss the patient with the General or Thoracic Surgery Attending on call. If admission is indicated, the Attending Surgeon on call will then decide whether to:
 See the patient him/her self
 Call the PGY3 to come in to evaluate and admit the patient
 Ask the Surgical Service Hospitalist to admit the patient.
4. QUALIFICATIONS

Offeror is required to provide documentation which evidences candidate qualifications as specified below, as part of its proposal.

Personnel performing duties under this contract must meet the following required qualifications:

• U.S. Citizenship
• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
• Must have a degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in Medicine.
• Possess current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
• Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination and background investigation.
• BLS and ACLS Certification are required (contractor must present evidence of course completion).
• Valid DEA# (each physician must present a valid DEA# to COR prior to beginning work)
• Must possess excellent skills, both clinical and administrative.
• Must be eligible for a temporary faculty appointment commensurate with experience at the Albany Medical College

5. EQUIPMENT: Must be familiar with the following:

• The physician must be comfortable with and/or willing to familiarize self, and achieve reasonable proficiency with VA Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and a variety of “paperless” documentation systems.
• Any of the equipment customarily used in performing patient care in a hospital setting.

7. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicant shall have no physical limitations as related to walking, bending, lifting, standing, and typing.

8. CONTRACT TERM: 6 months from date of performance with 1 additional 6 month option terms

9. WORK HOURS: Physician will be required to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends.
