GASTROENTEROLOGIST
MUNSON ARMY HEALTH CENTER

Fort Leavenworth is the oldest active Army post west of the Mississippi River. It is home to both Munson Army Health Center and Disciplinary Barracks Health Clinic. Leavenworth and Fort Leavenworth offer many historical attractions for all ages such as the Parker Carousel Museum, the Carroll Mansion, and self-guided walking/driving wayside tours.

We are seeking a Gastroenterologist to work at Munson Army Medical Center. The contract gastroenterologist will provide health care support and quality health care services to a diverse beneficiary population. The healthcare provider will work in conjunction with other health care providers, professionals, and non-contract personnel.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties included but not limited to the following:
• Serve as a practicing staff gastroenterologist responsible for the care of patients referred to and/or seen by the MAHC Gastroenterology Service. Scope of services includes, but is not limited to, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients referred for or currently being followed by the Gastroenterology Service for confirmed or suspected gastroenterology problems. The contract physician(s) will be expected to see and treat outpatients and inpatients.
• Perform medical and surgical procedures compatible with the medical facility's operating capacity and equipment. The contract physician shall not introduce new medical procedures or services without prior coordination with the Chief, Gastroenterology Service, and approval of the Chief, Department of Medicine, and Commander, MAHC.
• Exercise admitting privileges for patients requiring inpatient care or observation, write and/or review initial orders and prepare and/or review notes that include the patient's chief complaint, history, physical examination, laboratory data, assessment and plan, both diagnostic and therapeutic.
• Assist as required in the preparation of daily progress notes and perform follow-up to selected patients. Review and co-sign resident notes and orders as required.
• Coordinate all inpatient and observation unit admissions with the appropriate attending staff physician and General Medicine inpatient ward team.
• If desired and practicable, provide clinical supervision, professional guidance and teaching to housestaff and medical students assigned to the Gastroenterology Service through direct interaction and instruction.
• Complete formal written medical student and housestaff evaluations as required.
• Consult with other healthcare providers, e.g., primary care physicians and other specialists, regarding evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients who are cared for by the Gastroenterology Service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The health care worker shall meet the qualifications below:

• Possess a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from an accredited college approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and Hospitals of American Medical Association or a Doctorate Degree in Osteopathy from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, or permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
• Board Certified in Gastroenterology (American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Gastroenterology sub-specialty certification)
• Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any one of the fifty States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (no online course will be accepted)
• Shall have actively practiced as a gastroenterologist for at least 1 year prior to the commencement of services under this contract.
• Shall have expertise in adult GI diagnostic and surgical endoscopy procedures: upper gastrointestinal endoscopy; flexible colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy. Endoscopy procedures may entail: specimen collection by brushing or washing, biopsy, single or multiple; removal of tumors, polyps, or other lesions by hot biopsy forceps, bipolar cautery, or snares, ablation of tumors not amenable to removal by hot biopsy forceps, bipolar cautery, or snares; control of bleeding; removal of foreign bodies; guide wire insertion and dilation.
• Shall have expertise in other GI related procedures: peritoneocentesis, abdominal paracentesis, peritoneal lavage, esophageal motility (manometric) studies, and percutaneous needle biopsies of the liver.
• Experience and expertise in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), while highly desired, is not a requirement for the position.
• Possess current clinical competency, knowledge, skills and abilities to provide clinical services in the gastroenterology specialty. Shall have experience and expertise in performing gastroenterology medical and surgical procedures.
• Shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
