The position of Gastroenterologist is located in the Medical Service at the VAMC in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Duties include but are not limited to: Staff Gastroenterologists are responsible for the evaluation of all new inpatient and outpatient GI consults. They will be expected to perform endoscopic procedures in the endoscopic suite and/or operating rooms with additional procedures consistent with scope of practice. Additionally staff Gastroenterologists are expected to be proficient in the following areas: Colonoscopy with biopsy Conscious sedation Endoscopic control of bleeding Esophageal dilation EGD with biopsy PEG tube placement Flexible Sigmoidoscopy Paracentesis Performs other patient care related duties, as necessary In addition to clinical duties, staff GIs are expected to be actively engaged in the supervision of students/ residents and physician assistants assigned to their section.
