The physician is responsible for managing the full spectrum of primary care responsibilities for scheduled and unscheduled patients including admission, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and consultation of patients with internal medicine complaints, diseases and injuries. To manage primary care patients in the Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHS), the following will be necessary: ordering appropriate lab work, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, requesting consultations to specialty services, providing appropriate follow-up care, and triage of patients with non-medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries to appropriate disciplines for diagnosis and treatment. The physician will work in a team setting with other physicians, surgical specialists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of our patients. Computer skills are essential as the Veterans Affairs (VA) ECHCS is fully computerized for medical record note documentation, entering orders and requesting consults. Maintains and acquires knowledge from appropriate medical conferences, seminars, and personal readings in order to continue to develop and improve clinical skills. Participate in clinical trials (as applicable to their patients). Occasional travel to other VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) or the Denver VA Medical Center is possible. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or as agreed upon with the possibility of extended hours and weekends. NOTE: Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.
