Job Description

Last Update: 6/15/16
Hospital has need for a Board Eligible/Certified Family Practice provider to join our integrated medical staff. This employed position offers the opportunity to practice full-spectrum family medicine, up to and including surgical obstetrics, in a uniquely situated rural community. A competitive salary and benefit package includes the potential for loan repayment (State and Federal options). Medical Group medical staff consists of five family practice providers who perform OB services (4 perform C-sections), one general surgeon, six physician assistants (primary care and emergency medicine), and two CRNAs. The Districts medical staff is a group of rurally focused providers (avg. age < 45) who work well as a clinical team. The group members are extraordinarily supportive of the community, and of their peer providers. The desire is to add one or two providers to an extremely busy practice. Ideally, they see this physician practicing full spectrum family medicine, including surgical obstetrics, and share in ED back-up coverage (5-6 way split) and back-up surgical O.B call (4-5 way split). This position is an exempt (salaried) employment opportunity. Hospital will provide a structured salary guarantee for twenty-four months and will mutually review thereafter a production-based compensation agreement depending on actual productivity. The hospital has the following facilities: Acute Care, Mother-Baby/Obstetric Unit, Surgery, Nursery, Procedure Room, Sterile Processing & Central Supply, Emergency Department, Digital Imaging: X-ray, Ultrasound, Mammo, CT, and mobile MRI. Routine specialty physician practices include orthopedics, cardiology, podiatry, Ob/Gyn, ENT, psychiatry, and interventional pain management, with other services also available. Anesthesia, as well as laboratory and radiology, are available 24-hours a day. Two CRNAs provide comprehensive anesthesia coverage, including epidural services for obstetrical patients. The Hospital?s ED and medical staff serve as medical control for the county EMS system. ED visits run at 6,000-6,500 per year. As necessary, air ambulance and regional ground transport allow for patient transfer to Spokane, WA. The primary care clinics are CMS certified Rural Health Clinics. One clinic is located on the Hospital campus and is staffed by three physicians and one physician assistant; it is located immediately adjacent to the general surgery and visiting specialist offices. The second clinic is located one block from the hospital and is also staffed by three physicians and one physician assistant. Their short-range strategic plan includes constructing a new clinic facility adjoined to the hospital to bring together the two practices under one roof for improved care and patient access to services. Their medical staff and clinics are closely associated with the University of Washington rural residency programs (WWAMI) and routinely host 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year medical students. The county is located in the northeastern corner of Washington, bordered by Idaho to the east and British Columbia, Canada to the north. The central geographic feature of the county is the forested valley carved by the Pend Oreille River, which flows north into Canada. Three major ski resorts are within 45 minutes. Lakes, rivers, miles of forest and trails, and other opportunities for outdoor recreation are abundant to the area. While rural, they are also located only 40 miles from Spokane, WA, a regional population center (a Top 100 MSA in the U.S) which offers additional shopping, dining, and entertainment options, as well as access to an international airport. Their service area includes a total population of 12,000 in and around the city, population 2,200, located in the southern part of the county. They serve a substantial number of Idaho residents. Their total primary population base numbers approximately 17,000. As with most rural locations, the hospital cares for a significant population of residents who qualify for Medicare/Medicaid coverage (approximately 65% of their service delivery). They are committed to employing physicians in order to ensure that residents have full access to care in their home community, both primary and specialty. They believe this model allows for physicians to focus on the practice of medicine and clinical oversight and leaves insurance contracting, service billing, regulatory oversight and staff management to the hospital?s managers and leadership team. Their key strategic goal is to maintain local control of their care delivery system (autonomy), by developing local/regional affiliations that make functional/business sense. They believe their autonomy can be achieved by meeting three key targets: Quality outcomes (CMS defined rural metrics), Patient satisfaction (received Press Ganey - Guardian of Excellence award in 2013), and Financial (maintain an operating margin and sufficient cash reserves [150 equiv. days expenses].
