GENERAL DUTY DESCRIPTION: The Geriatrics and Extended Care Medical Practitioner will provide high quality patient centered care to Veterans under the different services such as Community Living Centers, Home Based Primary Care, GEM Clinic and Palliative/Hospice Care Service as assigned. The Medical Pratitioner in collaboraton with the Medical Directors and Program Managers of assigned services is responsible for the quality of care provide by the program, for the productivity of the program and for the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to meet the STVHCS mission. Administrative Duties include, but are not limited to, Leadership responsibilities; Staff Management; Business Planning; Health Information Management; Time/Leave Management and Clinical Management. Clinical Duties include, but are not limited to, Patient Care; Medical/Clinical Knowledge; Clinical Judgment; Interpersonal & Communication Skills; Professionalism and Systems-Based Practice. Education/Teaching Duties: Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitoring, and coordinating educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision requirements. Research Duties, (if applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies.
