The successful candidate will serve as a Physician (Compensation and Pension) at Alexandria VA Health Care System in the department of Medical Service, under the supervision of the Section Chief, Compensation and Pension. The incumbent will be accountable for primarily completing disability examinations for service members exiting the military in support of the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES). Additionally, the incumbent will complete pre-discharge examinations for service members or Veterans in support of the Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) and Quick Start (QS) programs. The incumbent will also complete other C&P disability examinations as required. The incumbent will work collaboratively with mental health, neurology, pulmonary, oncology, cardiology, GI, audiology, and optometry in completing routine and complex disability examinations. The incumbent works independently completing the physical examination, ordering and documenting diagnostic tests/results, researching and determining if consultation with other specialty services is required. The incumbent functions as an advocate for Veterans and directs them to indicated points of contact for filing claims and for clinical and follow-up care when needed. This position requires use and knowledge of computer systems and electronic medical records systems. The incumbent will serve as an integral part of our AVAHCS clinical team serving Veterans. The incumbent will perform General history and physical compensation and pension examinations, order and evaluate appropriate diagnostic studies, and act within the guidelines and quality indicators set forth by Disability and Medical Assessment (DMA), the C&P Service, and the AVAHCS. The C&P Provider will be responsible for generating C&P exam reports solely utilizing CAPRI templates for the official record of the Veterans/Service Members disability examinations. The C&P Provider will engage in DMA/other approved internal quality review procedures and other C&P administrative duties as outlined by the Section Chief, Medical Service. The incumbent must to able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate Veterans served by the Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital C&P Department. The individual must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to evaluate Veterans based upon physical psycho/social, cultural, safety and other age-related factors as noted in the competencies described in departmental and/or unit specific policies and procedures. Work Schedule: Full-time. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May be required to work outside the normal tour of duty such as Saturday Clinics and/or extended work hours to meet the mission of the facility. This position is eligible for union representation and the Merit Promotion provisions of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Union contract will apply.
