Job Description

Last Update: 8/24/15
A well-established Healthcare System is seeking an Endocrinologist for a Medical Directorship position, to build a brand-new Diabetes Program within this stellar 250-bed medical center!

Description: this position is entirely clinical, with time divided between direct care of individual patients, and indirect care related to education and clinical algorithm development that will touch hundreds of patients and clinicians.

Whereas the medical director may provide consultations regarding any endocrine problem, the main focus of the role is diabetes.

What follows is a general description of the position, which is not meant to be all-inclusive.

Direct Patient Care:
1) Provide consultations for inpatients or outpatients as requested. These may be full consultations at bedside or in the office or they may be informal, quick “curbside” chats with clinicians virtually, telephonically or in person.

Indirect Patient Care:
1) Supervise certified diabetes educators in inpatient and outpatient settings; develop and approve core curriculum for patients and ensure adherence to evidence-based guidelines and culturally proficient delivery mechanisms.

2) Develop, edit and update order sets for diabetes care in the inpatient setting

3) Provide CME events for physicians and mid-levels, inpatient and outpatient. Provide interim updates to the same clinicians when new recommendations emerge.

4) Collaborate with community-based resources to facilitate inpatient and outpatient individual and group self-management education options for patients

5) Develop and deliver unit-based nursing curriculum for diabetes

6) Provide learning opportunities for medical students and residents

7) Serve in a consultative fashion to P and T Committee, employee medical plan, ACO, etc., to identify and address gaps in diabetes care.

A competitive financial package is being offered along with a full benefit package and production bonus structure!
This upscale community affords amenities that include excellent schools, waterfront housing, with access to Ivy League universities, restaurants, great shopping, and a plethora of recreational/cultural opportunities all within a short drive off Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C.!
