A. Assist the Emergency Department Medical Director (“Medical Director”) and Regional Medical Director (“RMD”) to ensure efficiency and quality of the Emergency Department service. B. Assist the Medical Director and RMD in establishing, reviewing and updating Emergency Department policy and procedure on an annual basis. C. Assist the Medical Director through the encouragement of high quality Emergency Medicine care by all practice clinicians. II. RESPONSIBILITIES A. Educate, train and monitor the emergency department personnel and emergency physician group to assure their understanding of the operation of their department and their identification of the community and patients that the department serves. B. Assist in timely resolution of inter-department problems as they arise. C. Serve as a resource to other departments at the request of the Medical Director or in the absence of the Medical Director. D. Serve as an advocate/liaison for department members at the request of the Medical Director or in the absence of the Medical Director. E. Assist the Medical Director in Quality Assurance and Risk Management. F. Represent the Medical Director at designated administrative meetings when the Medical Director is unable to attend. G. In concert with the hospital’s process for responding to patient complaints, work with the Medical Director in implementing a system whereby every complaint receives the appropriate response in a timely manner. H. Be familiar with Emergency Department policies and procedures concerning: JACHO, EMTALA/COBRA, BBA 1997, Medical Staff By-Laws, Federal, State, and Local Laws and Regulations. I.
