EMS Fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
The Department of Emergency Medicine is a dynamic and growing academic unit, with a long history of outstanding clinical and educational training in EM. Currently, some 50 faculty, 47 EM residents, and 10 research staff, work along with support staff to provide clinical care for over 130,000 ED encounters at two hospitals totaling over 1,300 hospital beds. Active clinical research programs with EMS involvement include federally funded programs supported by NINDS, AHRQ, and NHLBI.
In conjunction with the Columbus Division of Fire, we offer an ACGME Accredited EMS Fellowship. EM faculty actively participate in local and regional EMS medical direction. MedFlight is a ground and air critical care transport program serving central and southeastern Ohio. The program has 9 air medical bases, 4 ground mobile ICU base and completes over 6500 transports annually.The fellow participates in local, regional, state and national committees and organizations that have direct input into EMS policies and procedures.
These opportunities include the Central Ohio Trauma System (COTS) Regional Hospital Emergency Preparedness Committee, the Columbus Fire Department protocols, EMS equipment, EMS education, EMS Week, and EMS Delivery committees, the Ohio ACEP EMS Committee, the COTS STEMI, Stroke, Prehospital Sepsis, Pharmacy, and Bariatric committees, the National ACEP EMS Committee, EAGLES Consortium and the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT).
All fellows will receive a PGY-4 appointment at The Ohio State University, Department of Emergency Medicine. Fellows must be BC/BE, successfully completed an Emergency Medicine residency program and hold an Ohio medical license.
