The Beckley VA Medical Center is seeking aEmergency Department Physicianfor a position in Primary Care Service Line. This position will provide treatment to patients in that the Emergency Department. Recognize and treat life-threatening conditions Resuscitate or stabilize patients and refer them, as necessary, to the appropriate medical specialist(s) or department(s), or for hospitalization. Work effectively as part of a team, with other physicians and other members of the emergency room staff. Evaluate a wide variety of ailments, sometimes with little to no information. Think and act quickly to make a tentative diagnosis and determine the appropriate course of treatment. Maintain current emergency medicine knowledge and skills through independent study and continuing medical education (CME) activities. Exhibit attributes of professionalism in the ED including: altruism, accountability, duty, honor, integrity and respect. Participate in medical staff and/or hospital affairs with the support of the ED supervisory physician. Gain knowledge of and comply with the basic principles of documentation, coding and reimbursement. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with major federal and state regulations that affect the practice of emergency medicine (e.g., the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)). Tour of Duty: Will work a flexible tour of duty in order to accommodate patient care needs. Shifts are generally seven 12-Hour shifts that rotate through evenings, weekend and Holidays as ED staffing requires. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives may be authorized for this position. Educational Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) participation is authorized for this position.
