Emergency Medicine Physician or IM / FM with Emergency Medicine Experience Needed in Central Iowa

Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa, an affiliate of Mercy Health Network-Central Iowa, is seeking a full time, BC/BE Emergency Medicine Physician to join its team. Degree in EM or FM / IM with EM experience.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
o Full time
o BC/BE in EM, IM, or FM
o Physician for Emergency Department needed due to departure of full time night shift physician
o Physician to join team of four employed physicians who staff the ER 24/7.
o 12 hour shifts
o # patients seen/year: approximately 11,000
o Level III trauma center
o Moderately high acuity level for a rural hospital
o Anesthesia support including one MD, 3 CRNAs available at all times
o Local specialties available for consult and ED patient evaluation: general surgery, urology, internal medicine/hospitalists, radiology, OB/GYN, and ortho.
o Backup support from family medicine physicians and other ED physicians as needed.
o Actively recruiting a full time general orthopedic surgeon.
o Inhouse 24/7 respiratory therapy, radiology, and lab staff. Ultrasound available on call. Radiology consults available after hours via PACS system.
o Stroke robot program with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
o Private ambulance service in town
o GRMC overall payor mix: 39% Medicare; 50% insurance; 9% Medicaid; 2% cash
o EMR system used: Healthland

ABOUT THE FACILITY
o Hospital Grinnell Regional Medical Center is a 49-bed hospital with 33 active staff physicians including: 13 family medicine physicians, 15 specialty physicians, 5 full-time ED physicians, and 15 mid-level providers.
o Patients come from a six-county Central Iowa service area that includes Grinnell-based practices as well as six outlying clinics in a 30-mile radius of Grinnell.
o Number of ER Visits Per Year: 11,000-12,000
o Grinnell, Iowa is centrally located between Des Moines and Iowa City, both having tertiary hospitals for transfers.
o Grinnell Regional Medical Center was recently named one of the nation’s top hospitals for 2010 by the Leapfrog Group.
