The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) invites applicants for the position of Staff Physician (Director MICU), based within the Medicine Service at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center. The successful applicant qualifies for a faculty appointment in the Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care, University of New Mexico. The Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provides clinical, administrative, and educational leadership over medical staff (attending physicians and physicians in training, midlevel providers) assigned to the MICU, as well as ancillary staff (pharmacists, nursing, respiratory therapists, etc.). Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to: Provide managerial leadership, planning, organization, staffing, coordination and evaluation for MICU activities. Ensure the ethical and competent practice of critical care/pulmonary medicine within the department. Oversee Process Improvement/Quality Assurance/Utilization Review projects and other administrative duties as assigned. Keep current with the critical care literature, develop performance metrics and monitor outcomes in clinical care. Implement evidence-based protocols/guidelines and other process improvement activities. Collaborate with other service line leadership to improve and streamline patient care delivery. Collaborate with Fellowship and Residency Program Directors at the NMVAHCS and UNM. Oversee educational activities and provide guidance to trainees and ancillary staff.
