Duties The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, Arkansas is seeking a well-qualified full time Physician with innovative leadership skills and good interpersonal skills to join the staff as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Research and Education (DCOS/R&E). The incumbent provides administrative and programmatic leadership for the research and education programs, who will report to and serve as the principal advisor to the Chief of Staff (COS) in all research and education matters. The incumbent has extensive experience in clinical research, a long-track record of federal funding, and a high level of expertise in the initiation and ongoing management of clinical research activities. The incumbent must also possess a broad knowledge and understanding of health care policies, operating program, extensive specialized knowledge of Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, performance improvement activities, overall quality of patient care, and experience in developing and/or expanding residency programs. The incumbent must also have at least 2 years of significant responsibilities in graduate education. The incumbent will be responsible for performing duties to include, but not limited to the following: Analyzes and interprets data and uses the results of this work as the basis for generating manuscripts for publication and papers for presentations at scientific meetings. Uses scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve the care of patients participating in research. Coordinates with the Directors of Residency Programs to promote and facilitate research among the trainees and clinical staff. Works independently, exercising judgment in dealing with complex clinical, research and educational decisions. Demonstrates behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, understanding, and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward patients, research participants, and the profession. Translate a learning organization vision into action while promoting practices with support a positive and effective education experience. Insure the VA education environment supports the affiliate/training agreements and education. Manage education affiliation and affiliation agreements; trainee qualifications and credentials verification. Provide support to the oversight of the accreditation process of all VA-sponsored accredited programs. Evaluate all teaching programs to determine effectiveness in meeting the programs goals, facility and patient needs and appropriateness of the organization and administration of the program. Functions as a mentor for students, residents, and junior academic staff in completion of clinical research activities. Continuously assesses and improves the processes of care delivery in the service so as to enhance patient safety.
