As the Surgical First Assistant, you will partner with renowned surgical practices to optimize surgical performance and deliver exceptional patient care. In this role you will be responsible strictly to perform first assistants’ duties in the operating room; you will not partake in clinical duties, hospital rounding or any kind of pre-op or post-op work.
Additional responsibilities of the Surgical First Assistant include:
Review all surgical patient’s surgical consent forms and history prior to scrubbing, if they are available
Prep and drape surgical patients as needed and as requested by the Attending Surgeon
Assist in surgery
Close incision lines as requested by Attending Surgeon
Tie superficial intra-operative sutures
Perform intra-operative stapling as directed by the Attending Surgeon
Administer local infiltrative anesthetic upon the request of the Attending Surgeon
Irrigate wounds and incisions as directed by the Attending Surgeon
Participate in emergency resuscitation and stabilization if needed
Apply and remove dressing and bandages
Apply and remove casts, splints, and traction as directed by the Attending Surgeon
Expedite room turnover
JOB REQUIREMENTS
To qualify as a Surgical First Assistant, you must have passion, drive and enjoy working in the hospital surgery room. In addition, the right candidate will have the ability to work in a team environment with healthcare staff.
Additional requirements of the Surgical First Assistant include:
Valid State License in Florida.
Valid NCCPA Certification (if applicable)
Minimum 1 years of recent multi-specialty surgical first assist experience or equivalent
Proficient experience and skills assisting with at least half of the following fields: General, Vascular, Orthopedics, Cardio-Thoracic, OB/GYN, Urology. Neurology, ENT & Plastics/Reconstructive
Laparoscopic and Davinci Robotics experience preferred
Active/Current Hepatitis vaccination
BLS/ACLS Certification
