Job Description
The G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VAMC is seeking accomplished Physician Assistants to provide ongoing outpatient care for stable physical and psychiatric problems. Duties include:
-tProviding ongoing outpatient care for stable physical and psychiatric problems.
-tCarrying out activities that are part of a preventative healthcare program.
-tDrawing blood specimens for testing and performing other comparable procedures when personnel who customarily perform such procedures are not available.
-tMaking appropriate interim summaries of the patient's medical record.
-tProviding and documenting education and counseling of the patient's family in preventative care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
-tMay take verbal orders from supervising physician and initiate. This includes writing orders for medications and other orders as given as verbal by supervising physician. The supervising physician must co-sign all of these verbal orders within 24 hours.
-tPerforming fecal occult blood test.
-tOrdering appropriate laboratory tests, i.e., x-rays, EKSs, routine blood work, and comparable diagnostic procedures.
-tPerforming initial histories and physical examinations on new patients. These will be reviewed by the physician supervisor who will note or addendum, as indicated.
-tPerforming histories on old patients. These will be reviewed by the physician supervisor who will note concurrence or addendum, as indicated.
-tProviding on-going patient care for stable physical and psychiatric problems.
-tPerforming psychiatric patient examinations on new and old patients, i.e., obtaining psychiatric history detailed mental status exams.
-tPerforming periodic physical examinations for patients.
-tExpediting requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies.
-tDictating notes on all procedures performed for which the PA is responsible.
-tWriting admission/transfer orders, orders during hospitalization, and passes including diet laboratory/radiological studies, current medications, and consults.
Tour of duty: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday Vacant positions are located in Inpatient 3L, Addictive Disorder Treatment Program, & Telemental Health Program
