FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER/ELIGBILITY: • Certification/License: Nurse Practitioner must possess and maintain an active, valid, and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse Credentialing Center from a nationally recognized certifying body. Current certification is required in BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). • Basic Requirement: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. • Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. • In addition to the above qualification requirements: Applicants must have completed a Nurse Practitioner training program of at least 4 months in duration. If the Nurse Practitioner training was limited to a particular specialty such as OB/GYN, Pediatrics, or Surgery eligibility may be limited to positions for which the applicant has either Nurse Practitioner training or practitioner experience subsequent to the training. PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT/ELIGBILITY: • Certification/License: Physician Assistant must possess and maintain an active, valid, and current certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Current certification is required in BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). • Basic Requirements: Physician Assistant must successfully completed a certificate or diploma program of at least 12 months, including clinical training or preceptorship, specifically designed for professional-caliber physician's assistants that provided the knowledge and ability required to take a detailed medical history, to conduct a physical examination, to follow observation procedures, to order and perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, and to exercise a degree of judgment in integrating and interpreting findings on the basis of general medical knowledge; or equivalent education and training OR successful completion of a full 4-year program for physician assistants leading to a bachelor's degree. The course of study or training must be approved by a nationally-recognized professional body such as the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or by a panel of physicians established by a Federal agency for this purpose. TYPICAL DUTIES – NURSE PRACTITIONER & PHYSICAN ASSISTANT/SERVICES: The Contractor shall interview and examine patients. The contractor shall review past medical history and request and/or perform diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case. The contractor shall make preliminary diagnosis, direct, prescribe or provide treatment, and/or arrange specialized care if indicated; this shall involve use of appropriate referrals as required following the Indian Health Service guidelines for Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) Program referrals. a) Contractor shall conduct patient care in their assigned duty area and may occasionally make home visits if needed. b) Contractor shall refer patients to appropriate contracted medical facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at the local facility. c) The contractor shall utilize the IHS Electronic Health Record (EHR) for patients’ medical documentation. The contractor shall chart patients’ electronic medical record prior to the end of each shift. Documentation shall be complete and accurate in accordance with the requirements of the Service Unit Medical Bylaws, IHS Policies, accrediting agencies, health insurance agencies, etc. Documentation and records means all electronic health records and paper records, and must be legible. Contractor shall assure medical records preparation for all patients seen for care in order to provide for the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive and subsequent medical care. d) Contractor shall familiarize himself/herself with the particular needs of the Fort Yuma Service Unit health delivery system and its beneficiary population and communities.
