The Surgical Specialty Physician Assistant will be responsible for reviewing and triaging consults. Conducting initial evaluations and determining a plan of care for the management of patients with general surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, orthopedics, urology and ENT needs. They will consult patients pre and post-procedure and facilitate clinical evaluations through consultations with MEDVAMC Specialists through clinical video telehealth. Specific duties and responsibilities of the specialty may include, but are not limited to: Performing initial histories and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients; Providing ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients; Screening outpatients to determine need for further care; Prescribing medications within defined scope of practice.; Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms (EKGs); Carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities; Initiating and expediting requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies; Making interim summaries of the patient's medical record; Dictating notes on procedures performed for which the APN/PA-C is responsible; Providing education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs; Providing training to PA students; Providing telehealth services with specialty providers; and Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: To be determined and may include extended hours and weekends.
