The Clinical Decision Unit at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston serves to build a bridge between outpatient and inpatient services. Patients initially coming to the ED are admitted to this unit for testing and observation. The setting is geared toward patients who require more management or attention than can be given in the traditional ED, but do not need the length or level of services provided in the inpatient setting.
Clinical Decision Unit:
- 12-hour shifts
- Open 24 hours/day
- 10-beds
- Physician on-staff
- Cross-credentialed for fast track

Criteria:- Nurse practitioner or physician assistant with at least 2 years ED experience
