NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, located on First Avenue & 97th Street in Manhattan, accommodate over 313,000 outpatient visits, nearly 70,000 emergency room visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with New York Medical College.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure appropriate specimen accessioning and obtaining pertinent clinical information and studies.
  • Verification and interpretation of clinical information on requisition slips.
  • Accessioning and organization of specimens, requisition slips and cassettes
  • Description of gross anatomic features and dissection of large complicated, medium and small specimens
  • Grossing and describing of biopsies
  • Preparation and submission of tissue for histologic processing
  • Obtaining and submitting specimens for additional analytic procedures
  • Photography of gross specimens
  • Skills to work with Cryostat for Frozen sections, skills to work with Voice Recognition system, computer programs/software operated.
  • Responsible for Inventory, Cataloging, ordering and maintenance of lab supplies, equipment and laboratory chemicals.
  • Monitor refrigerator temperature and room temperature on daily basis.
  • Prepare quarterly quality assurance reports, monthly workload summary reports

Qualifications:

  • NYSDOH Pathology Assistant License
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification as a Pathologists Assistant.
  • Proof of Covid 19 vaccination is required prior to hire
