Job Description

Last Update: 5/24/24

To our prospective teammates,

I’m the medical director for Kaweah Health located in Visalia, CA. I have been a part of Sound for 5 years and part of the practice at Kaweah for a little over 1 year. I’m proud of the critical care practice we have built and welcome interest from critical care NPs and PAs desiring a career change to explore an opportunity with our group. I’d like to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:

People
  • We are a closely-knit, established team of 10 physicians and soon enough, 2 advanced practice providers (APPs).
  • Our team is involved with numerous work groups including practice guidelines, code blue committee, and ICU celebration of life committee.
  • Although our team is new to Sound, we have worked together for many years. Several physicians live in Fresno/Clovis and commute. We also have physicians who commute from Los Angeles.
  • Our location is the gateway to the Sierra Mountain Range. We are about an hour from Kings Canyon, Yosemite, and Sierra National Forrest. Visalia enjoys a year-round Mediterranean climate with access to excellent hiking and outdoor activities. We boast an overall low cost of living and exceptional schools which make for an excellent place to call home.
Practice
  • Kaweah is a 600-bed level III trauma center and a stroke center with about 310 inpatient beds. We provide care in a 21 bed MICU, 20 bed CVICU, and 42 bed ICCU.
  • At night an APP will cover the ICCU with tele-ICU physician support. An intensivist will cover the MICU and CVICU overnight.
  • The ICCU is an extension of the MICU. In the ICCU we have insulin drips, low-dose pressors, BiPAP, trach, and vented patients. APP has support via Tele-ICU MD, but will work independently managing critically ill patients, performing ICU procedures (central lines, arterial lines, and intubations).
  • Salary range for APPs working 15 nights per month is $263,520. There are options for full-time commitments between 10 to 15 night shifts per month. Salary will vary depending on shift commitment.
  • We offer relocation assistance and commencement bonus.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • We value and support growth and development in our critical care practice, allowing you to explore new opportunities locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and support involvement and contributions to community health and wellness in and out of the hospital.
