Location: Located in the central part of Michigan, providing the amenities of big city life with all the charm and security of a mid-sized community. About 110 miles to Grand Rapids and 130 miles to Detroit!

Facility: A 324-bed Medical Center offers a broad range of primary care and specialty care services, as well as 24-hour emergency care and Level II trauma care.

Opportunity:
  • In collaboration with a physician develops an anesthesia care plan. Provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care and/or administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
  • Monitors patients accurately and performs Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilation or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center.
  • Manages the patients’ physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician.
  • Assists with other departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.
  • Essential Duties:
    - (25%) Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation

    - (25%) Prepares the OR Suite for all types of anesthesia
    - (25%) Administers, manages, and monitors anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence
    - (25%) Provide post-anesthesia care and evaluation
  • Skills (include but are not limited to):
    - Adult and pediatric venipuncture

    - Arterial line insertion
    - Medication calculation and effects
    - Sterile technique
    - Airway maintenance
    - Administration and management of regional anesthetics
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    - Takes appropriate safety precautions to insure the safe administration of his/her anesthesia care.

    - Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the Department.
    - Provides clinical support to other departments within the Medical Center.
    - Other duties as assigned
  • - Written, organization, and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups to interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
    - Demonstrates the ability to perform basic and advanced skills required practicing anesthesia.
    - Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook

  • Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions:
    - Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief, and death
    - Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required
    - Able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description
    - Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s)
    - Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time - may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching
    - Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material - must follow bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required
    - Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake
    - Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling - may require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis
    - Physical Demand Level: Light - must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) lift or carry 10 lbs. and walk/stand/push/pull of arm/leg controls
